Custom MiniDisc printing and recording in slip cases for orders of just ten or more

If you are after a short run of professionally produced MiniDiscs to go with your CD, vinyl or cassette tape release then we have just the service for you. We record onto brand new Sony 80 minute blank MiniDiscs (80 minutes is the same play length as a standard CD), so your CD contents can be directly moved across onto matching MiniDiscs.

The old-style MiniDisc album cases are no longer produced, however we do have new frosted and clear MiniDisc slip cases or clear MiniDisc jewel cases (on another page) into which we can insert full colour printed double-sided inserts that include the spine.

Benefits of our MiniDisc duplication include:

  • High quality recording on brand new Sony MiniDiscs
  • Minimum orders start at just 10 MiniDiscs
  • Up to 80 minutes of audio playback, identical to a CD
  • Recorded in real time using ATRAC 4.5 compression
  • Direct to MiniDisc full colour on-body printing (no labels), with white and spot gloss inks available
  • MiniDiscs come in slip cases with full colour on-body printing on the top of the MiniDiscs and a double-sided full colour printed L-card in the case

Additional info

Blank MiniDiscs used for production

We use brand new Sony 80 minute MDW80T MiniDiscs which were introduced in 2015 and are the only MiniDiscs still in production today, but only released in Japan. The discs themselves are clear at the front and lightly frosted clear on the rear, with a little black text and logo on the front and ‘SONY’ debossed into the metal protective disc cover. We can print entirely over the front of the discs, leaving you with a blank white or black canvas (depending on our base layer colour) onto which your artwork can be printed, as you can see in our gallery above.

You can also use partial or no white base layers to then allow the coloured ink to create transparent coloured MiniDiscs as shown below in the red and blue discs created for Aloe City Records by printing on our standard clear MiniDiscs with the white base layer only over the metal clip area. To create this effect where you don’t need a full white base, please supply an additional copy of the on-body PDF artwork template (to go with the full colour version) with the artwork in just black and white where black indicates where the white print will be added and the white colour indicates no white print.

Do you need a barcode?

Barcode generation service for CDs

If you will be selling your discs through a retail store then you will probably need to register a unique barcode for your release and apply it to the rear outer artwork of your product to make it possible for them to sell via their product barcode scanner.

In Europe we use the EAN 13 barcode system and in North America the UPC system is used. We can register an EAN 13 barcode for you and embed the barcode graphic within your disc packaging artwork. The only information that we will require from you will be the name of the band/artist and the title of the release, then just leave a suitable space in your artwork and we will register the barcode and add it to your artwork for you.

Have you considered NFT tag stickers?

If you would like customers to be able to tap your cassette tape, CD, USB, VHS or just about anything else on their Android or Apple phone to open up a web page, music video, specific Spotify artist page, album or track then just include NFC (Near Field Communication) tag stickers with your order and we can then apply them to your product.

These tags measure 19mm x 12mm in size, use an NTAG213 chip with clear PET and a strong adhesive back. They have a strong field for their size and are very durable.

How to place an order

An order can be created by selecting the required product options above and adding them to your order. If you have your audio and artwork files ready, you can upload them at this stage. This process will generate a quote, which will be emailed to you and our admin team. No payment is required at this point.

A member of our team will then be in touch, generally within 1-2 working days, to check your quote and artwork and discuss your order. Should you then wish to proceed, they will email you an invoice for payment before we start production.

If you wish to upload your files at a later date or have any issues uploading via our website, you can also send your files to us via WeTransfer.

Any questions?

There are often many questions that customers may have that are not answered above, in which case please do not hesitate to pick up the phone or email us and we will try to help. Our contact details can be found here.

We also have an extensive CD production FAQs section which may help to answer your questions.

L-cards for MiniDisc slip cases

Each L-card is printed full colour on both sides with a single panel and spine print on each side. Please use two copies of the below template, one for the outer print to be displayed on the outside of the case and one for the inner print that is only revealed once the MiniDisc is removed.

  • MiniDisc case L-card artwork template (please use two copies of this, one for outer print and one for inner print) (PDF download)
  • MiniDisc case J-card inner artwork template with up to 2 additional fold-out panels (PDF download)

MiniDisc on-body printing artwork template download

We print on the tops of the MiniDiscs using a full colour on-body print in the standard label area as standard. We can also print using white and spot gloss inks if you wish, these should be supplied as separate files or layers in the Photoshop document using a solid black and clearly state if they should be printed as white or spot gloss. If you would like either a full coverage top print (including the metal sliding cover) or the rear or spine printed then please also complete those print areas in the downloadable Photoshop PDF template below.
